THE FISHING AT

UCHI LAKE LODGE

WORLD-CLASS WALLEYE & PIKE FISHING IN NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO

THE FUN OF FISHING UCHI LAKE

You’ve heard the old adage it’s not “how”, but “how many”. Well, at Uchi it’s really the truth. You will catch them on just about anything in your tackle box. It’s more of a game to find something you can’t catch one on. Most colors are okay too, yellow seeming to be the odds-on favorite. A medium weight spinning or casting rod is your best bet, and 6-8 lb line is perfect. Tie on a jig, spinner or plug and you’re set to go!

Conservation was made a number one priority years ago, and today the results are obvious…

80-100 walleye per boat per day is the norm, 3-5 lb average. In a nutshell, Uchi Lake is a walleye fisherman’s dream come true.

NORTHERN PIKE LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN

Walleye aren’t the only fish at Uchi – Northern Pike are wall to wall.

You will need to bump your tackle level up a notch or two… Medium to heavy rods with 8-18 lb line is a must, a steel leader is too, unless you want to lighten your tackle box for the trip home!

We recommend spoons (Johnson silver or gold), spinner baits, divers, plugs and surface lures as basics to bring the “Uchigators” up to your boat. In other words, if it’s flashy or makes noise – it will work, and keep you busy and laughing all day long.

Northern’s over 40 inches are caught daily at Uchi Lake and it’s common to see pike attacking your walleye as you reel them in. Sometimes it’s even possible to net both fish at once! It’s memories like this that keep guests coming back.

UCHI LAKE’S IDEAL FISH HABITAT

As every fisherman knows, a variety of habitat and structure is crucial to a thriving fishery. That’s why Uchi Lake is abound with big walleye and northerns that rival any Ontario walleye fishing lake. The lake is 12 miles in length with a max depth of 87 feet, numerous islands, weedy bays, fish-funneling narrows, rocky points, and feeder creeks; but that’s only what’s above the surface…

Below, you’ll discover sharp drop-offs, boulder-strewn underwater islands, expansive flats in 7-15 feet of water… All in close proximity to each other! So whatever your fishing preference – be it trolling, shallow casting, or plumbing those dark, inky depths, Uchi Lake has it all. And if you’re one of those fishermen who knows the deadly effectiveness of a fresh wiggly minnow, live bait is available every day from our main lodge.

“NOWHERE DID WE FIND WALLEYE FISHING COMPARABLE TO THAT IN UCHI LAKE. NOT ONLY IN NUMBERS, BUT IN SIZE.”

CONSERVATION-MINDED FISHERY

Uchi Lake is a catch and release lake. But we do enjoy fresh meals of walleye and pike everyday at shore lunch. To make this work, we ask that each guest brings 1 walleye under 18 inches into shore lunch (preferably 16-17 inches) each day.

For those wishing to have a meal of fish to return home with, we allow guests 2 walleye under 18 inches and 1 northern pike under 27 inches for take home, if desired. All other fish must be released!

Replica mounts are far superior to skin mounts so make sure you have a camera with you while you are out fishing. It is our camp rule that makes the fishing so good at Uchi, so please abide by our rules. Handle fish with care and get them back in the water as quickly as possible.
