    SHERP VS FLOATPLANE

You have a couple of options for getting to Uchi Lake Lodge. You can drive almost the entire way to the lodge and take a 5.5 mile 4×4 ride on our Sherp “monster truck” of an ATV, or drive to Onaway Lodge near Ear Falls, Ontario and take a floatplane for an aerial experience seen by few. Here’s a detailed breakdown of each option.

    ARRIVING BY SHERP

The Sherp tour is a 5.5 mile off road adventure from our parking lot to the lodge. You will traverse a river, 4×4 through mud bogs and even cross Uchi Lake (if desired, otherwise boat crossing will be provided). This will take approximately one hour. Pickup is scheduled for Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:30 am (other arrangements may be possible, call to discuss options). Our parking lot is located 45 miles from Ear Falls. This is a gravel road most suitable for suv and pickup trucks. Directions from Ear Falls to our parking lot will be provided after booking.

The Sherp can transport eight guests at a time and tows an amphibious trailer for luggage and gear. Weight restrictions are the same as the planes at 75 lbs per person for the American Plan and 100 lbs per person for the Housekeeping Plan. Beverages can be pre-ordered a few weeks ahead of time to save on weight restrictions.

The major benefit to the Sherp option – these rides are never delayed by weather like the flights often are. Several times each season guests get delayed by fog, rain, or heavy winds when traveling by floatplane. Usually just a few hours, but occasionally they’re delayed longer. Something to consider!

If traveling by Sherp, it’s best to overnight at the Trillium Motel in Ear Falls, ON. Their number is 807-222-3126. It is best to book well in advance as they are located on the highway and always busy.

    ARRIVING BY FLOATPLANE

Uchi Lake Lodge offers a truly captivating arrival experience by floatplane. As the plane glides over the rugged wilderness of northern Ontario, passengers are treated to breathtaking views of serene lakes and dense forests. The lodge emerges nestled among the trees, a picturesque oasis perched along the tranquil shores of Uchi Lake. The thrill of landing on water, followed by a smooth glide to the lodge’s dock, marks the beginning of an unforgettable adventure. Guests are warmly greeted by friendly staff, eager to provide a seamless transition into the lodge’s rustic luxury and a taste of the wild beauty awaiting their stay.

We use Onaway Lodge and Outposts for all floatplane trips. Located 48 miles north of Vermillion Bay up Hwy 105 (towards Ear Falls). Watch for Onaway signs and turn right on Onaway Road. It is then 1.5 miles to their dock (Onaway Lodge is 5 mins past Dutchies General Store).

If traveling by plane, you have the option to stay at the Northside Motel in Vermillion Bay 870-227-5339 or the Trillium Motel in Ear Falls 807-222-3126. Please make reservations well in advance as both motels are busy.

Flights to Uchi are arranged for 8 am. Please be there 30 minutes early to get the plane loaded.
